I have used iGoogle as a Web portal since it was introduced in 2005 but, much to my disappointment, iGoogle is being retired as of November 1, 2013. I have looked at all the alternatives I could find, but I finally developed my own portal (http://pittstop.com/home/). A visitor commented that “startme.com is great!” so I decided to take another look. It has some bugs and the developers don’t respond to emails, but it does have potential. You can see an example here. Here are links to the iGoogle alternatives I could find:
ighome
NetVibes
Protopage
My MSN
My Yahoo!
iGoogle Portal
uStart
PortalPanel
Startific
StartMe
Thanks – startme.com is great!
Thanks, Pam, Startme is interesting and I may wind up using it. For the time being, however, I like the flexibility of developing my own page.
Hello Bill Pitt, If you find more iGoogle alternatives then you can visit at igooglealternatives.info. Thanks
Thanks, Billie, the site igooglealternatives.info is a good suggestion. I like the analysis of each alternative and agree with the conclusion that startme.com< is the best iGoogle alternative to date.
Try http://www.iloggo.com nice icon based starting page which works also on mobile browsers
Thanks for the suggestion. You might let the folks at igooglealternatives.info know about iloggo because it might not have been available when they did their reviews.
Hello Bill!
Whoa, all these suggestions, you must be overwhelmed 🙂 I personally prefer MyYahoo, but I recently found about Hinto.co and I’ve started using it too because I can add content from sites that don’t have predefined widgets on myYahoo.
Nice blog, keep it up!
Bye
Thanks, Brad. Hinto.co looks interesting but it appears that you have to log in using your Facebook account and I think that’s a major drawback.
I use http://www.start.me myself and it has been working really well as an alternative to iGoogle. In fact I’d say that it’s better, at least for me.
Jon, after using StartMe for a while I have to agree with you. I prefer it to the old iGoogle. Just to clarify things, http://startme.com is the original site while http://www.start.me is the new Beta version.
