Macromedia Dreamweaver is a powerful WYSIWYG site building tool, one that doesn't alter existing HTML by inserting strange tags that only add clutter and weight to the page. Dreamweaver has become the industry standard, and it is the choice of a vast majority of professional developers, but programs such as FrontPage and NetObjects might be a better choice for non-professionals.

There has been much speculation about what will happen to Dreamweaver after Adobe's acquisition of Macromedia. Adobe's web development software, GoLive, has never achieved Dreamweaver's popularity with professional developers, and most observers agree that Dreamweaver will emerge as the single professional Web development software package.
